Yes the stairs can still open and close.

No you leave the panel attached to the stairs. No functionality is lost with the backer attached.
How are they attached?

They are attached with nylon straps in a toolless design. Straps go around the rail of the stairs and through premade holes in the aluminium sheet.

Common sizing is Small 18in x 20in, Medium 23in x 32in, Large 23in x 36in. Custom sizing available, contact for details.
